this leads to the post-structuralist trap of perceiving a simulated/spectacular world run by evil men and shadowy organizations who produce reality with their actions. the truth is that these would-be demiurges are themselves subject to the material demands of capitalism. if they seem invincible, it's because their wealth and power is based on forms of rentier exploitation and extraction that we don't have good language for describing or intuition for attacking
